DISCO is a Collaborative Project funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 Reasearch and Training Programme of the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM) (H2020-NFRP-2016-2017-1), section B - Contribute to the Development of Solutions for the Management of Radioactive Waste. Topic NFRP 6: Addressing key priority R&I issues for the first-of-the-kind geological repositories. Funding scheme: RIA - Research and Innovation action. Project ID: 755443.
The project started on 1st of June 2017 and will last for 48 months. The project is implemented by a consortium with 16 Beneficiaries. The consortium will be advised by a so-called End User Group (EUG), consisting of Waste Management Organisations in 7 countries (Belgium, Finland, France, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK) as well as regulatory authorities in 5 countries (Belgium, Germany, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland). The inclusion of Waste Management Organisations (WMOs) as an EUG in the project ensures that the research conducted in the proposed project will be relevant and useful for the ultimate goal of safe radioactive waste disposal.
The total budget is 4.69 million Euros. The European Commission contributes with 3.99 million Euros to the project.
@ISL_Sheffield are at #f18mrs this week in Boston, presenting our latest research at the 42nd Scientific Basis for Nuclear Waste symposium. The first of our speakers is Theo Cordara, talking about his #h2020disco research on synthesis and durability of modern nuclear fuels pic.twitter.com/e5Pkiyydco— ISL (@ISL_Sheffield) 27 de noviembre de 2018
Another busy trip @DiamondLightSou, busy collecting #EXAFS on some super-tricky #uranium samples. Understanding the atomic structure of modern nuclear fuel takes a lot of #teamwork. Good job these two groovy guys are here with me! #h2020disco @msesheffield @SheffUniEng #YoE pic.twitter.com/0mNjnNumM9— Dr Claire Corkhill (@clairecorkhill) 26 de octubre de 2018
To round off a super busy day at ISL HQ, here's an action shot of Hannah & Theo who are @DiamondLightSou making a late night (or is it early morning? we don't know anymore!) sample change in support of their #h2020disco research on nuclear fuels @msesheffield pic.twitter.com/zTahSV9z3D— ISL (@ISL_Sheffield) 26 de octubre de 2018
